If there is one organization in Nigeria that has contributed wholesomely to sports development in the country, it is the Nigerian national Petroleum Company Limited . As a responsible corporate citizen committed to the empowerment and development of Nigerian youths, the NNPCL has for decades promoted sports development through the sponsorship of flagship sporting events.
Many football enthusiasts remember with relish the exploits of the then NNPC Football Club of Warri, which featured prominently in what was then known as the Division 1 Football League. As the NNPCL promoted sports on the national stage, it also made it a key plank of its management objectives to encourage the participation of its employees in sports as a way of promoting wellness and fitness among them. In this regard, the annual NNPC Games was born.
