Tennis world No.2 Aryna Sabalenka’s late boyfriend, former NHL ice hockey player Konstantin Koltsov, died by “apparent suicide”, the Miami-Dade Police Department says. News emerged on Tuesday that the two-time Australian Open champion was mourning the loss of her partner of three years, just days before she was due to play in the Miami Open. He was 42. Despite her tragic loss, it’s understood Sabalenka will still play in the tournament.

She is due to play on Friday, March 22. Footage of the Belarusian star practising at the tournament’s training facilities was posted in the hours after Koltsov’s death. Earlier, his passing was confirmed by Russian ice hockey club Salavat Yulaev, where he was working as an assistant coach. “It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that the coach of Salavat Yulaev, Konstantin Koltsov, has passed away,” the club said.
