​The Province created the Community Housing Fund in 2018 and the 17 projects announced on Tuesday come as part of the program's third intake., a program that was created in 2018 with the goal of developing over 20,000 affordable homes for individuals, families, seniors, Indigenous people, and people living with disabilities.

For this latest round, BC Housing accepted request for proposals between August and November 2023. The 17 projects that will receive funding are: Burnaby, 7000 Lougheed Hwy.: 66 homes for Indigenous and non-Indigenous families and seniors, in partnership with M'akola Housing Society. District of North Vancouver, Old Lillooet Rd.: 166 homes for families and seniors, in partnership with More Than a Roof Housing Society.

Canada's NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh Announces Plan for National Rental Protection FundCanada's NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh was in Coquitlam this morning, March 12, to announce his party's plan to ensure a national Rental Protection Fund is part of the next federal budget. Singh, the Burnaby South MP who was joined by Port Moody–Coquitlam MP Bonita Zarrillo at a news conference at the Tri-Branch Co-op, said his party will use the B.C. Rental Protection Fund model to expand the program across the country. The fund would be used to help nonprofits buy affordable housing when it’s on the market and keep it affordable for renters in those buildings.
