Millennials aren't buying large, elaborate houses built by baby boomers, leaving the homes to sit on the market and eventually sell at huge discounts.

, The Wall Street Journal reported. Now, faced with the effort of maintaining such houses, they're looking to downsize.Millennials are choosing to face 2-hour commutes instead of paying exorbitant rates to live in cities, and it's resurrecting a near-dead part of the suburbs"Homes built before 2012 are selling at steep discounts — sometimes almost 50%, and many owners end up selling for less than they paid to build their homes ...

It’s almost as if wages have been stagnant for a couple decades, and the boomers are the last generation who can afford a home...

Such a clickbait title. How about more accurately stating that nobody wants to buy these huge homes, nor can they afford them. Baby boomers weren't buying these homes in their late 20s either.

Totally agree. Much better to have a smaller place. Easier to maintain and cheaper bills.

Considering most millennials can't afford to see a doctor when sick, buying an overpriced house from the people who ensured our financial struggles is the least of our concerns.

They made fun of our Avacado toast too many times so we ain’t buying their goofy McMansions

If they’re in desirable areas, convert them in to multiple units.

Just call in the Chinese and the problem is solved! Remember Vancouver, Los Angeles, Sidney just to name a few.

Gee, I wonder why? 🤔

This is a parody article, right? RIGHT!?

Good. Boomers ruined the futures of millennials with their greed. Let them rot in their oversized tacky homes.

Have 2 kids and a dog or two, then see how small you want that home! Millingo’s will be begging for that extra bathroom or a chance to get away from those screaming kids.

Gen X doesn’t exist.

Apparently the rush to build mc-mansions was as bad an idea as I was warned 20yrs ago. I was warned that US tastes were going to edge to smaller houses as baby boomers want to scale down and the next generation after would follow that trend. That lady was was one smart cookie.

Boomers screwed Millennial/GenXers futures for their own greed and head-up-their-own-ass'edness. We can't afford places that fifty years ago could be paid for with a single full time job in the family.

Boohoo

WE CANNOT AFFORD IT! SUZE ORMAN VOICE

Is it really a 'problem in the real estate market?' Or is it really just a problem for the sellers? For the right price someone will buy those homes making it not a real estate problem as much as it is a problem for those looking to recoup their 'investment.'

We po.

Why do all these stories act like Gen Xers don't exist?

It's really mad to me, how we often describe boomers failing at creating a sustainable economy as 'millennials don't want.' Of course we don't, you've all fucked it up.

if I may be absolutely honest - yawn

I don't think it's because they don't want the big house & land, it's just because they can't afford that price tag, on their salaries with the cost of living being so high. I think we need proper context to these articles...

Don't want or can't?

Everyone is scratching their heads. We were always going to face these problems in residential real estate. Didn't happen overnight. '04-'08 was a misleading era. Okay... HomeSweetHome 🏡

Millienials are going to want more fully loaded homes with tech features I believe. Defineltly more new school looks for homes would be dope.

Thank you for covering this crucial matter!

Ello yes millennials I live in ze Castle Black and we have plenty of space pour vous!

When both partners have full time jobs, they don't want the 3rd job (the house). Nevermind the commute and the 20 minute drive to get to a Whole Foods... sadthatbefore

you don't need a big house.. overrated!

Most Millennials can't even afford to buy their own underwear....

Isn't the narrative that millenials are broke anyways? Were 'roomates' just a Gen X thing?
