Police are hunting a suburban shooter after a man was wounded by gunfire, prompting a massive emergency lockdown in Cairns on Thursday afternoon. A shot was fired on Collin Ave in Edge Hill about 1pm on Thursday after a two-car crash involving a black Audi and a white sedan. “One person discharged a firearm at another before leaving on foot,” police said in a statement. Responding police locked down an area bordered by Pease St, Woodward St, Polentz St and Russell St.
Police located the Audi on Pease St but found no one when they entered a local home. They believe the occupants can assist their investigation. At this stage, none of the people involved have come forward, and it is unclear how injured the wounded man is, police said. The shooter has been described as about 30 years old and about six feet tall with a slim build. He has a tan complexion and short black hair and was driving a white motor vehicle.
