A pregnant woman and a seven-year-old girl have survived a frightening crash in Melbourne’s southeast. The 38-year-old woman lost control of her car, ploughing into an elderly couple’s home on Lyrebird Drive in Carrum Downs about 1.15pm on Thursday. 7NEWS understands the woman behind the wheel suffered a medical episode, causing her to lose control of the vehicle. After crashing, she was trapped in the car for some time before she was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
The owners of the home have told 7NEWS they were forced to stay in a hotel room last night, and emergency services say it could take weeks before they are allowed to return home. “We were sitting playing cards and I won so I said, ‘I’m going for a cigarette’ and she went to her bedroom and in that moment the crash started,” the resident told 7NEWS. “If we were sitting at the table playing cards we would be gone, in pieces.
