Kevin Hilliard's, 68, has the stall at Saxmundham market in Suffolk. More than 1500 people signed a petition demanding he is allowed to stayA town's pick 'n' mix sweet stall has been shut for good after a health-conscious council decided to rebrand the market.
'I'm feeling a bit sad to be moving on because the town has always been loyal to me and so I feel that I should be loyal to them,' Mr Hilliard told the BBC. He added: 'I'm very grateful for all the support I've had from the town and beyond, because I go to a lot of shows in the summer around the East Anglian region.
'So you know that must say something for him to say that a farmers' market with all its home-produced stuff would want me there.' This will impact Mr Hilliard's livelihood as s he will only be able to operate his stall - from which he sells traditional sweets like jelly babies, flying saucers, sherbet dabs and fruit gums - at the market in Stowmarket on Thursdays and Saturdays.'Saxmundham Wednesday Market has been in decline for a number of years... truthfully, it is on the brink of closure,' the council said.
