Scott Morrison feared he would lose everything before walking away from his Post Office in Craigneuk, Wishaw, in 2022.

An ex sub-postmaster has told how the stress of a £90,000 Horizon black hole forced him out of his long-running family business.

“It was about four months before it was rectified it and that was only when I shut the door and closed the office.“I’m now in a group of ex-postmasters and acting postmasters who have suffered and continue to suffer unexplained shortages on Horizon systems still being used.In 2010, Scott took over the Post Office his late mum had ran since 1982.

He said: “I could take no more. I contacted PO and told then I was closing my post office immediately. I told my wife when I arrived home. Between 1999 and 2015, more than 700 post office branch managers were convicted of false accounting, theft and fraud based on faulty Horizon software. His account followed the story of Marlene Wood, who said she was on the brink of losing her Perthshire branch and becoming homeless after paying shortfalsl in recent months.

Motherwell and Wishaw SNP MP Marion Fellows said: “Scott’s case encapsulates the fundamental moral wrongs and outrageous injustice faced by sub-postmasters and sub-postmistresses.“His mum built the business and ran it as a community hub. She did everything you would expect to make it thrive before Scott took over.
