Auto workers at a Windsor, Ont., Fiat Chrysler plant said the mood is 'pretty grim' after news that the company would cut some 1,500 jobs in six months in response to lack of demand for the minivan and Pacifica models.

Workers at a Windsor, Ont., automotive plant are “reeling” after Fiat Chrysler announced they would cut a third shift in the fall.of the workforce. As workers clocked in and out at the plant Friday morning, they told CTV News that the mood inside was “pretty grim.”

Chrysler announced that retirement packages will be offered to eligible employees and they will make an effort to place laid off workers in open full-time positions. The company has given the Unifor union six months’ notice before the change takes effect. “With the minivan, the baby boomers have them. The kids coming in behind them don’t want the minivans. It’s an SUV market,” he said.

The company had “always talked about” adding another vehicle to the production line at the Windsor plant to deal with declining sales, he said. In 2015, the plant underwent $2-billion in upgrades to start building the Chrysler Pacifica. The upgrades installed give the plant “a lot of options” for what it can produce beyond the minivans, said Dias.

Trudeau just keeps providing

JustinTrudeau cafreeland Just in case you didn’t notice Ontario just lost 4500 automotive jobs...these are real jobs, not the fake ones being thrown around by your SNC scandal. hello McFly

Jobs moving to the USA which incidentally doesn’t have a carbon tax and has reduced crushing regulations and taxes. How many other jobs will be lost before the feds clue in?

Trudeau fights for SNCLavalin jobs, he’ll fight for these too. Liberals

Yeah, at a $10 BILLION energy mega project, that would be the camp dining room and housekeeping staff. 120,000 lost jobs in the west, think about that.

I wonder if trudeau will apologize and shed some fake tears?

instead of scattering vote buying cash around, why can't the government focus on a plan for canada and settle on a few niche sectors we could excel at. so arrogant to think canada can influence world trade and deserves a break. we are a small trading partner of raw materials

Maybe they should put sn c above the doors...im sure j t would try to move heaven and earth to help them.

Big blow to YQG :(
