Life360 admits inadvertently switching on crucial privacy setting for Australian users, allowing service to on-sell data
Life360 said it doesn’t sell or share Australian data, but has now issued a mea culpa of sorts via email after the story aired. Tom Finnigan, the co-founder of MurFin Group – a leading cyber security consultancy – asked how long the setting had been in place. Finnigan referenced the 2014 Cambridge Analytica Scandal as a case in point when it came to understanding the value of otherwise innocuous information.
In Australia around 1.9 million users pay to access the tracking app - many are parents, keen to ensure their children are safe.Its website says users can “get a detailed view of… driving habits,” including speed and if a user was texting.
