Cameron Smith has suffered a setback, having to pull out of his final warm-up event with illness just five days before his latest tilt at a Masters green jacket. Australia’s top hope, who’s hoping to continue his fine record in Augusta, faces going into the season’s first Major somewhat undercooked or, worse still, feeling under the weather when it tees off on Thursday.
His four birdies were offset by five bogeys and a double. Withdrawing is a setback after what has largely been a positive start to his 2024 campaign for Smith. He has enjoyed two top-10 finishes in his first four events of the year, including a third-place finish at last month’s LIV Hong Kong. Augusta National remains a happy hunting ground for him, too, with four top-10 finishes in the past six years.
