I HAVE just received a very kind letter from the Ad Standards Council, an independent, self-regulating, nonstock, nonprofit organization for the advertising industry, inviting me to become an honoree at this year's golden anniversary celebration of self-regulation of the industry. It is completely unexpected and undeserved and is almost as unbelievable as being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
It ultimately led to much-improved government relations with the foreign and local press. Not much has been said lately about the newspapers working together as a tightly knit group, but the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas remains a working model for broadcast. Now, the Ad Standards Council has taken the lead by announcing a three-year golden anniversary celebration of self-regulation of the ad industry.
