The 17th President of the Ohio State University gave his first State of the University address, discussing the importance of understanding the past and meeting the needs of the technology industry.

Thu, April 11th 2024 at 11:51 AMFILE -- Walter "Ted" Carter Jr. was formally introduced as the Ohio State University's 17th president on Aug. 22, 2023. The 17th President of the Ohio State University gave his first State of the University address on Thursday.The new president spoke about what he had learned in his first 100 days.

Carter takes the reigns as the central Ohio area is experiencing a massive investment in technology. He spoke about how the university will rise to meet the need for an educated workforce required by Intel and other high tech industries. Carter touted the successes in the school, both on the field -- with seven recent national championships -- and in academics, with theHe also addressed an issue that has haunted the campus and nearby off-campus for the past few years — security and safety.

Carter said the university is hiring more campus police, increasing foot patrols, and working more closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement.
