Bosses at the BAE Systems shipyard in Govan this week hailed the impact of a new shipbuilding hall which will be big enough to fit two new Type 26 frigates side-by-side.

Building ships in the Glasgow rain will soon become a thing of the past thanks to a gigantic building project on the Clyde.

And it means HMS Cardiff - currently being assembled outdoors on the yard's hardstanding - will be the last ship to be built in Govan while exposed to the elements. It will include two 100-tonne cranes to lift materials in place and two 20-tonne cranes operating at lower heights.
