The chairman of Ford Europe says the company must secure its competitiveness and protect itself in a no-deal scenario.

Ford has stepped up warnings over a no-deal Brexit, saying it would take a"long hard look" at its UK operations in that event.

As Theresa May scrambles to find a way forward following a series of 'no' votes on Brexit options in Parliament, the chairman of Ford Europe was telling Sky's Ian King Live the company had a duty to protect itself from the prospect of becoming uncompetitive. Steven Armstrong said Ford, which employs just under 13,000 staff in the UK including workers at its Dagenham and Bridgend engine plants, had already spent tens of millions of euros preparing for no-deal.

The sum included the stockpiling of components for its factories and he said it was money that, in the best case scenario, was going to be wasted.

Ford already committed to massive cuts at Essex HQ. Funny how they ditch UK but our buyers are loyal to them- their cars aren’t so popular in Europe.

That's a dog whistle for 'we're pulling out if there is no single market'

WHY A not going to stop selling to B

In which case I will take a “long hard look” at what make my next car will be. Neither we, nor the Ford workforce should be threatened by these arrogant global industrialists.

Everyday my contempt for Sky grows.

As Ford don't make cars here anymore there isnt much to look at but if they do they will suffer on tye retail side of their business many people still regard Ford as British but in reality as soon as we joined the EU they gradually left

As a non car owner or intending to drive citizen. I don't care as I see these car companies are saying they might leave UK yet most factories are automatic so the factories are run by skeleton crews as people are sacked.

We have a Ford cos showroom not far away but if they do this we will change makers 😠

All Ford cares about is money and all the govenrment needs to do is have the LOWEST corporate tax rates cheaper then the rest of europe , say 11% ....france ita over 30% germany its over 35% poland its over 45%

Scaremongering

Another company using fear mongering to push the anti Brexit agenda. Why don't firms wait to see what happens with Brexit until scathing everyone

So not selling here anymore? They're crap anyway, I would never buy one again.

It’s well known in the automotive industry that ford want to move production to a cheap labour country eg Romania

Ford is american we are going to get a deal with america

In the event of no deal we will have tarrif free access to Japanese cars cutting the price by 40%. Ford wont be able to sell cars here when pitched against Japanese cars.

EU have given South Korea tariff free status which will damage the UK car market...I take a long hard look between buying a Ford or Kia with 7 years warranty ummm..

Why haven't sky news been reporting on the investment our car manufacturers have pledged DespiteBrexit There is now absolutely no shame from our biased remain media outlets. Brexit has exposed them.

If they bothered to actually make any vehicles in the UK then they wouldn't have to worry about any possible import duties.

Fix Or Repair Daily, hmm?, never mind

'to take a long hard look' So we are to believe Ford have just decided to think about the situation now? Most businesses have run every scenario imaginable and have a pathway for every eventuality. That's not to say they don't have a preference as do media reporting the situation

Our being in Europe seems to be all embracing haven’t we any decent employment left?

who needs jobs and a functioning economy when you have sovereignty, eh brexit belivers?

We have Jag, Landrover, Mini, Nissan and Toyota committed to the market of 70 million in the UK. Ford can keep its measly cars; they will just be replaced by mature manufacturers like Kia in the future.

Considering they already used taxpayers cash to shut down the transit plant and ship it to non EU Turkey why would we give a shit?

I would laugh if it wasn't so serious.

Bye ford

DO NOT BUY FORD

The way this Brexit is going we could all be going to the poling stations on scooters or push bikes. That is if there is anyone trustworthy to vote for.

I could have sworn that the people of the UK were told that Brexit wouldn’t effect the car industry. Yet another lie.

Already moved most of them out of the Uk with the help of eu funding while we were still members so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ford who? They'll be bust in 10 years anyway.

That's alright we won't buy them then 🤷🏼‍♂️

Britannia will be ruling nothing soon enough!

Look all you like. Never buying a ford again.
