The country's largest reservoirs are almost bursting with huge volumes of water following a year and a half of severe precipitation.

Britain could be handed a reprieve from the summer hosepipe ban after enduring the wettest 18 months since records began as reservoirs are full.

The rainfall in the 18 months leading up to March were the highest amount ever recorded. A spokesperson for Thames Water said: 'We carefully monitor our water resources, and while we currently don't anticipate the need for a hosepipe ban this summer, we do encourage our customers to use water wisely as we head into spring.
