The former US president appeared in the courtroom today after he was accused of falsifying his business records.

The former US president appeared at a courthouse in Manhattan at 2pm on Monday. He will become the first-ever former US president to face a criminal trial.

The 12 chosen, with six alternates, will only be identified by numbers with their identities kept secret from all except prosecutors, Trump and their legal teams. The Mirror reports that neither live audio nor video recording is permitted inside the courtroom, however, photographers managed to snap the ex-president on his way to the Manhattan Criminal Court.

"This is really an attack on a political opponent, that is all it is, so I’m very honoured to be here, thank you very much." It is alleged that Trump made or caused false business records to hide the true nature of payments made to Michael Cohen. The historic trial will mark the first time that a former US president has ever gone on trial.

Just hours before the trial began, the outspoken former president made a final jibe at those behind the so-called “rigged trial” in a series of outbursts on Truth Social. In one post he wrote: “Why didn’t they bring this totally discredited lawsuit 7 years ago??? Election Interference!”
