WARNING: Distressing content. While Sydneysiders remain in a state of shock following the stabbing of a bishop and worshippers during a service at a church in Western Sydney, a criminologist has said police will be looking into several lines of inquiry after they deemed the event a “terrorist act”. Christian leader Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, Father Isaac Royel and two churchgoers were stabbed during a livestreamed service at Wakeley’s Christ The Good Shepherd Church on Box Rd just before 7.

“We know that, and several measures have been brought in to try and mitigate that,” she said. “There’s been changes such as increases in fines and prison sentences for repeat offenders etc as a deterrent to young people, as well as new technology brought in such as hand held metal detectors to try and ensure that the public is safe especially around places like train stations and schools for example. “But certainly youth knife crime has increased and the carrying of knives.
