Collingwood 2023 premiership player Nathan Murphy will never have to suffer a head knock in an AFL game again after being medically retired from the sport, but he is not out of the woods yet. The 24-year-old’s concussion during last year’s grand final was the last in a string of significant blows suffered throughout his 57-game career, which gave doctors no choice but to advise him to stop playing contact sport.
Nathan Murphy details sad aftermath of medical retirement. More recently, Murphy also suffered a hit to the head in a tackle from teammate Nick Daicos during match simulation in January. He announced his retirement from the AFL this week, but remains in the care of Collingwood’s medical staff as he continues to battle concussion symptoms. Appearing as a guest on Talking Footy on Wednesday night, Murphy said he still has a long way to go in his recovery.
