Meta is more intent on taking journalists off their platform than criminals says Financial services minister Stephen Jones, pledging the government will invoke new laws to better protect users. In a major amping up of criticisms of some of the platforms, Jones declared Twitter, now known as X, had become “a playground for criminals and cranks” and “a factory for trolls and bots and misinformation.

“The social media platforms dragging the chain telcos to the telecommunications companies, we’ve already got SMS blocking and filtering, stuff happening at the moment. So more will be done in that area.” “But over the course of this year, we need mandatory codes in place. And for parts of industry, not all of it.
