If there was any doubting Harley Reid’s rise to AFL superstardom, then the official for Anzac guernsey auctions proved it. Multiple clubs, including West Coast, Collingwood, Essendon, Adelaide, Geelong, GWS Giants and Gold Coast auctioned off their match-worn jumpers from the recent Anzac round games. While nearly all the jumpers were match-worn, the auctions also included listed players who didn’t feature in last weekend’s matches.
That honour went to Collingwood veteran Scott Pendlebury with his jumper going for a staggering $6700 after a wild bidding war that saw the price jump $1700 in the final hour. Pendlebury’s guernsey carries extra significance given he became the first player in VFL/AFL history to notch 10,000 disposals in the thrilling Anzac Day draw against Essendon. Nick Daicos’ auction had a late flurry of bids with his jumper eventually selling for $6275, which wasn’t even half of last year’s result.
