loved delving deep into spreadsheets as a junior accountant in the Auckland office of Westpac New Zealand. But after seven years working in finance, he took a chance on a singing career at the age of 32.
Singing isn’t the only talent Tahu Rhodes possesses. He’s also a good golfer with a handicap of just seven. In the past couple of years, when he was living in Melbourne, he was a regular at The National on the Mornington Peninsula. The 1.96-metre tall star is modest about his exploits on the fairways and greens.
He is a traditionalist when it comes to cricket and golf, and is not a fan of the short-form Twenty-Twenty cricket, in which a 20-overs a side limit encourages swashbuckling shots in the pursuit of fast runs. Test cricket traditions are more appealing. He played a lot at school in New Zealand and then, after a gap of 17 years, picked it up again in 2015 while still performing and travelling. He has a beloved set of Titleist golf clubs he bought when he resumed playing. “I haven’t upgraded since then.”
