Leadership tussle: Nnewi market leaders drag Anambra govt to PCC

The groups are asking the commission to intervene in a brewing crisis in the market, occasioned by a protracted tussle for leadership in the market’s election.

Stakeholders of the market who spoke to journalists said the ministry should be made to abide by the resolutions reached by the PCC after it intervened in the matter on Oct.31, 2018. “Because this is in violation of our constitution on sharing formula, which states that non-indigenes and indigenes of Nnewi in the market shall share executive positions on 50/50 basis.

“We are also contending the April 12 date as instructed by the state commissioner because it is not feasible for the electoral committee to reorganize elections of offices in the market.On their part, Nnewi Progressive Forum, Agba Edo said the Nnewi rotational principle which had operated for over 25 years should not be violated in the interest of harmony among Nnewi people.
