S&P 500 snaps 8-day winning streak ahead of earnings season

U.S. stocks closed solidly lower Tuesday as investors wrestled with a fresh escalation in international trade disputes and a downgrade of the global economic outlook by the International Monetary Fund, reigniting fears about slowing global growth. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 190 points, or 0.7%, at 26,150, the S&P 500 index SPX, -0.61% finished off 0.6% at 2,878, snapping an eight-day win streak, while the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -0.56% finished the session off 0.
