Two Sydney restaurants have been forced to close after claims the current cost-of-living crisis has been “tougher” for the hospitality industry than the Global Financial Crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. The owners of two popular Sydney restaurants announced they were shutting up shop “effective immediately ... with a heavy heart”.
“We, just like the wider hospitality industry, have continued to face challenges recently, including rising costs, staff shortages and increased rents and outgoings.” The restaurateurs listed the troubles they faced in the industry, from starting their business during the GFC to navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, but said the “current trading conditions” were the “toughest they had seen” in their time of operating venues.
