The company manufactures low carbon heat pumps

US manufacturing company Copeland has invested £19 million in its Cookstown manufacturing plant as it targets sales in Europe.

The group, which employees around 18,000 people around the world, said the investment will allow it to ramp up production of low-carbon heat pumps and serve growing demand across Europe. Part of the investment is a 3,500 square metre building equipped with new production lines which is due to be completed by September this year.

Copeland, which specialises in compressors, has experience growing demand for heat pumps – particularly low carbon models – as the global race to net zero carbon heats up. By investing in Northern Ireland, is taking advantage of the region’s unique access to Europe under the Windsor Framework.

Copeland said the Cookstown facility has produced some five million compressors since first opening in 1997.
