Such is the life of Manoj Joy, an Indian ship captain-turned-port chaplain. The waves of fate brought him to the high seas of seafaring and down to the shores of publication and law. But even as the man left the world of shipping, his life remained tied to those in it.It was with his entry into maritime law that Joy became a channel of hope and salvation to a Burmese fisherman who was unlawfully imprisoned even after being held hostage by Somali pirates.
I felt his love for him as he showed me his brother's pictures. He gazed at them with such tenderness and happiness. I told him that I, along with Sailor's Society, would keep his family in our prayers.'As we continued to interact, I shared that I understood what he and his family are going through because my daughter is also suffering from the same ailment. He also promised to pray for her,' Joy recalled.
