He told the summit’s 150 B2B delegates: “We have got a smiling bike industry in Europe for the first time in a generation. Companies are making big profits [thanks to premium priced e-bikes].”
The self-described “e-bike evangelist” added: “E-bikes are leading a transformation of mobility across Europe, and they are also transforming our industry. The NGO grew out of the informal Cycling Industry Club, founded by ECF and steered by Mayne from the start. Cycling Industries Europe lobbies the European Commission to provide more infrastructure for cycling across the EU, claiming that such investment will create 225,000 jobs – the body calculates that the number of people already employed in cycle manufacturing, retail and services and cycling holiday companies totals 650,000.
