An estimated 3.8 magnitude earthquake has rocked the NSW town of Goulburn in the early hours of Thursday morning. Small tremors are believed to have been felt in the town — which is halfway between Sydney and Canberra, just after 6am. On Thursday, seismologist Adam Pascale told Sunrise what locals would have felt from the quake. “The nearest population probably would have heard quite a loud bang … or short shaking,” Pascale said. Pascale said earthquakes in the area were usually quite shallow.
“Those earthquakes occur pretty shallow, usually between 2km and 10km deep. “We don’t have a good look on it yet. “We will do more analysis, it is certainly strong enough to be felt but probably not cause any damage in the local area.” Crookwell resident Linda told 7NEWS about the frightening incident. “This morning I was sitting at the table doing my crossword and having a cup of tea when there was this loud bang,” she said.
