The federal elections agency said Protect Ohio Values didn't violate campaign finance limits when it posted valuable and expensive information online during Vance's run for Senate in 2022.

Sen. J.D. Vance listens to remarks from republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally Saturday, March 16, 2024, in Vandalia, Ohio. COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Federal Elections Commission has dismissed a complaint filed by a good-government group against a political action committee that spent $19 million helping now-U.S. Sen. JD Vance get elected in 2022.

The Washington D.C.-based Campaign Legal Center had filed the complaint in June 2022, a few months after Vance won that year’s Republican Senate primary election. The CLC said that Protect Ohio Values broke federal laws limiting the size of campaign contributions when it spent $1 million on polling and voter-targeting research, and then shared it with the Vance campaign by posting the sensitive information on the internet on an unpublicized blog.
