American Airlines is extending its cancellations of the Boeing 737 Max 8 until mid-August, as investigations into the manufacturer continue.

At least 115 flights will be cancelled throughout its summer flight schedule, with 24 planes grounded.

American Airlines Chief Executive says the company wants to ensure reliability and customer confidence over the peak travel season. The 737 Max 8 aircraft has been grounded worldwide after two fatal crashes, on Ethiopian Airlines and Indonesia's Lion Air, which killed hundreds of people. Boeing says it is developing new software for the aircraft.
