On Canal Road, it was business as usual at Orange Beach Hardware, with folks picking up supplies for weekend projects. Owner, Jack Galletta said talk of the hurricane season predictions is common among his customers and he’s already made preparations in the event another storm comes our way.

) - As of midnight June 1, the 2024 hurricane season begins. It’s a season forecasted to be very busy with the possibility of several strong storms. Emergency managers are encouraging folks to prepare now so you won’t be rushing later.

“That doesn’t mean you prepare any more or less. That just means we don’t know where they would go,” said Director of the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency, Tom Tyler. “It’s just going to be an active season in the hurricane…in the Atlantic basin is what they are predicting but we would like to tell everyone, now is the time to start preparing if you’re not fully prepared, if you’re not where you need to be.

“We have a game plan on moving our furniture and our equipment upstairs,” said OSO Operations Manager, Brandi Limerick. “Luckily, we have an upstairs here so a lot of our equipment can be saved where it wasn’t during Sally and then our food will go into our outdoor cooler that we have elevated now.”
