The Priory fined £300k over death of 14-year-old girl

The Priory healthcare group has been fined £300,000 over the death of a child at one of its hospitals.

The private company, which runs mental health services as part of an NHS contract, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court. The Health and Safety Executive pursued a criminal investigation and the company admitted to a charge of being an employer failing to discharge its duty to ensure people were not exposed to health and safety risks.

A court hearing in January was told Amy, who was deemed high-risk and had a"known and recent history" of suicide attempts, was admitted to the hospital on 23 August 2012.On November 12, she was found in her bedroom with a ligature around her neck and taken to Conquest Hospital in Hastings, where she died the following day.

She admitted to having"low points where I have not wanted to be alive any more just so that I could be with Amy".

It's perhaps not what Amy's Parents would call justice, but it's something for Amy's Parents, & it might not make things better for them, but maybe, just maybe, tonight they might get to sleep that bit sounder than they have in a long time, now Amy's Parents, go get your Justice

Priory sentence only features on BBC website in Health section. On the app that is nearly 3/4 down. Rebuilding a sodding foreign church is top. Priorities need changing.

That's peanuts to them

It’s the drugs not the contract

Quoting the priory group 'The fine of 300k is not much shy of our yearly Corporation tax figure nice one my lord' 👎

RIP

LOOKS LIKE THE COUNTY CONCILS AND GOVERNMENT ARE GOING TO GET HUGE FINES FOR DEATHS IN THERE CARE HOMES, NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW, BUT NOBODY GOES TO JAIL, ONLY THE POOR AND VUNERABLE!!

Why is a director of the company not in prison. The fine will be paid by raising prices. Directors say they require big salaries because of the risks they take.

Is that all a life is worth peanuts 🥜 ?

This can but only help encourage other hospitals to take in sick children in similar circumstances..er..

Whenever something like this happens the government profits from the fine while the family are generally left with nothing. These kind of fines should be forwarded to the relatives of the victims tax free.
