A woman reportedly killed a 3-year-old child in what officials are describing as a random attack outside an Ohio grocery store.

Police said officers responded to a report about a possible stabbing in the parking lot of North Olmsted Giant Eagle on Monday afternoon.

North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones said two people were hurt, including a mother and her toddler. "I am deeply saddened by an incident this afternoon in the parking lot of the North Olmsted Giant Eagle Supermarket. A female, who is currently in the custody of North Olmsted Police, stabbed a female customer and her 3-year-old son," Dailey Jones said, who also noted they were taken to St. John Medical Center.

"Our hearts go out to the two victims of what appears to be a random act of violence," the mayor added., the boy later died. The media outlet said the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the boy as 3-year-old Julian Wood. Police did not release the identity of his mother or her condition, WBNS noted.
