Numbers in the background of Canadian new-vehicle sales are sending mixed messages about the health of the industry.

The consultancy estimates sales hit 169,000 for the month, up from around 160,000 last year and well above the"pitiful" 141,000 sold in May 2022, which marked the height of the global semiconductor shortage. “It is somewhat concerning — if not unexpected — that the SAAR appears to be trailing off from the levels hit in January and February, when pent-up demand fuelled the market to lofty heights,” King said.
