A pioneering US company specializing in genetics-based innovations for food and agriculture has developed the world’s first seedless blackberry.
Even though the blackberry has earned its repute, yet study shows that more than 30% of berry buyers refuse to buy them. This is majorly because the fruit contains seeds and thorns which make it difficult for people to consume. This marks the first caneberry of its kind, and is created by using the company’s proprietary Fulcrum Platform.
These organisms use CRISPR-derived RNA and several other Cas proteins to prevent attacks by viruses. Praising the technology, Haven Baker, Pairwise co-founder and Chief business officer, said, “With the precision of CRISPR, we are able to develop these thornless and compact traits without sacrificing consistency in flavor and quality for consumers.”
