PARIS - Pledged donations from French billionaires, companies and ordinary citizens for the restoration of fire-ravaged Notre-Dame cathedral are approaching 900 million euros after just two days, a reflection of the landmark’s resonance in the national psyche.

The first major donation to Notre-Dame came from Francois-Henri Pinault, the billionaire head of luxury goods group Kering that owns fashion brands Gucci and Saint Laurent. Brand and reputation experts said the quick response by some of France’s most recognizable corporate titans made sense, especially since the disaster involves a national symbol.

Palmer said that even from a non-marketing point of view, early offers of support could be beneficial for a company’s political positioning. All three firms are broadly supportive of President Emmanuel Macron and want to be seen as helpful with backing for his calls to rebuild. LVMH - which had benefited from large tax breaks to build the Louis Vuitton Foundation in western Paris - dismissed the notion it was merely trying to boost its image.

Consider this; a building can last for... atleast 500 years. The poor will always be poor and a lot of folks don't see the danger that our environment is in.. The burning down of the Notre Dame can't be denied...

everybody knws what each religious sector is capable of

People rush to give money to buy their way to heaven.

The inevitable politicking of the disaster has begun. How will people make money off of it? Why is a building getting so much help? The Muslims did it! No, the Russians! Enough. Just accept reality. A vital piece of history was nearly destroyed by fire and people care about it.

Notre Dame is owned by the French State. It's a french icon, and people donated from the heart and their love of France.

I cry I’d, tears ran down my cheeks.

It's insured!

It is ridiculous to question the generosity of those who can help rebuild the cathedral. It is both a National treasure and Heritage site. Those who complain should spend their money on the groups they support. Freedom of choice.

Why would anyone donate to a child rape organization that is one of the richest organizations in the world—wealth it built during centuries of subjugating the poor?

If Jesus were here, I think he would want the money to be spent on the poor and celebrate mass in a tent instead.
