If you’re using TikTok, it’s crucial to avoid opening any direct messages for now. According to a report by Forbes, sources within the company have discovered that malicious code is being used to hijack numerous celebrity and brand accounts on the platform. Notable accounts affected include those of CNN, Sony and Paris Hilton. The Forbes report reveals that cybercriminals are sending malware through DMs on TikTok.

Some CNN staff members mentioned to Semafor that their team had been complacent regarding digital security practices, but an insider emphasised that the breach was externally initiated. The hacker might have gained access through one of these malicious DMs. A CNN spokesperson informed Semafor that the company was collaborating with TikTok to implement additional cybersecurity measures. These efforts aim to secure their account during important events, such as the upcoming presidential debates.
