She is accused of placing a hold on the company's mail and showing up at the post office to pick it up, pretending to still be employed by the company.

A woman from New York City has been charged with a federal crime over allegations that she stole mail from her former employer and deposited about $167,000 worth of checks into her bank account.

Kathryn Mountain, 36, of Brooklyn, was charged with possession of stolen mail, the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey said in a news release. She appeared in Newark federal court on Thursday and was released on a $100,000 bond. A criminal complaint alleges that Mountain placed a hold on the company’s mail, which caused it to be held at a post office in Newark until a representative of the company came to pick it up. Mountain then showed up at the post office, pretending to still be a member of the company in order to retrieve the mail, authorities alleged.
