A baby boy has died after he was critically injured in a crash that killed his mother north of Brisbane. The 33-year-old mother’s car left the road, smashing into a tree, on Caboolture River Rd in Upper Caboolture just before 2.30pm on Friday. She was declared dead at the scene. Her three-month-old son was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, where he died from his injuries on Sunday afternoon, according to police.
Burpengary Forensic Crash Unit Sergeant Greg Price said on Friday that the boy had been secured in a baby seat, but was thrown out on impact. “We’re seeking what the actions of the driver were prior to the crash,” Price said. He confirmed that the baby’s father had been with him at hospital. “At this stage, speed is something we are looking at in relation to the extent of the damage, but I can’t tell you at this stage if anything else was involved,” Price said.
