There were several things that contributed to this attack and the chaos that followed, but one of the most concerning is that many CISOs and risk managers were actually aware that Change Healthcare was thefor payments and billing processes.

Patients deserve better, and if anything comes from attacks like this, it should be the change and innovation that healthcare organizations urgently need.While this attack sent shockwaves through the industry, multiple other breaches also made headlines, exposed patient data and derailed care processes recently.

Bad actors will continue going after healthcare organizations known to pay the ransom because they are weak targets, putting patient safety at risk. Healthcare’s current reactive approach to cybersecurity is not sustainable. It could take years before any meaningful legislation passes that would fundamentally change the way healthcare approaches cybersecurity. In the meantime, there’s an urgent need to address these cybersecurity, financial and resource challenges.
