An AFL fan who ran onto Adelaide Oval and disrupted play has called himself a “legend” after leaving court on Wednesday. Julian Saginario was famously tackled by Crow Ben Keays after running onto the field during Adelaide’s clash with Geelong in Round 2. The 22-year-old was slapped with a lifetime ban from attending AFL and AFLW matches. He faced court on Wednesday where he told a magistrate he had too much to drink on the night and shouldn’t have done it.

Appearing to be recording the episode on his mobile phone, he not only entered the arena but ran straight into the action as players scrambled for a contested ball. After an umpire stopped play, the man was grabbed by Adelaide midfielder Matt Crouch before breaking free, only to be collared by Keays, before security pounced. The AFL banned the man from attending AFL and AFLW matches at any venue. It was just one of a number of pitch invasions at AFL games this year.
