The remains of a gas truck smolder on Alameda Street after it caught fire and exploded in Wilmington on Feb. 15. The explosion occurred around 7 a.m. on Feb. 15 near Alameda Street and Henry Ford Avenue. Nine firefighters who responded to a reported vehicle fire were injured — two critically.
The lawsuit was filed Tuesday, June 18, on behalf of firefighters Andres Saenz II, Casey Dunn, Daniel Goen, Howard Weiserweaver, Ian Gallardo, Robert Ward and Tom Rodriguez.It names as defendants a series of companies involved in the design and manufacture of the vehicle and its compressed-natural-gas fuel system, along with the woman who was driving the truck and its owner.
One of the truck’s two compressed natural gas fuel tanks exploded. One firefighter was violently thrown through the air by the blast, a scene captured by video.
