New South Wales have stunned Queensland in a hot start to State of Origin II. In a must-win clash at the MCG after going down in game one, the Blues scored the first four tries inside the first 28 minutes of the game to shock the Maroons before going in at half time 34-0. “I’ve never seen anything like this at this level,” Andrew Johns said just moments before the record-breaking first half finished.
At 22-0, it was already the most points New South Wales have scored in the first half of an Origin game. To make matters worse, the Maroons have also lost Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow to a shoulder injury, which is still being assessed. The Blues then inflicted more pain on their arch-rivals as Latrell Mitchell, on return to the team, scored another try to make it 26 to nothing in the 33rd minute. Lomax converted again to bring the score to 28.
