A mum-to-be who put her itchy legs and night sweats down to common side effects of pregnancy was devastated to learn she was actually suffering from a rare cancer. Kylie Dixon, 32, was told she had just six to eight weeks to live without treatment when doctors finally diagnosed her with Hodgkin lymphoma, an aggressive type of blood cancer. She was only diagnosed six months after she gave birth to her son Jake.
She was finally diagnosed in January 2011 and underwent nine months of chemotherapy at Whiston Hospital. She was thought to be in remission but had to undergo another three rounds of chemotherapy when she relapsed. Kylie then had a bone marrow transplant at Royal Liverpool Hospital to help boost her immune system in 2012.
