LAVAL, Que. — Union members at CN and CPKC railways have voted to reauthorize strikes at both companies if negotiated settlements can't be reached.

A three-year-old boy is dead after he and his family were struck by a truck at a marked crosswalk in southwest Edmonton Thursday. A 39-year-old woman and her two young children, the boy and a seven-year-old girl, were hit as they crossed the street in the Allard neighbourhood around 5 p.m., Edmonton police said in a statement. A 2019 Ford F-150 truck was travelling north on Allard Road S.W. when it stopped quickly at the three-way stop at Allard Boulevard S.W., police said.
A Brampton, Ont., man convicted of smuggling 200 kilograms of methamphetamine into Canada via the Ambassador Bridge has received a 12-year prison sentence.Mohamed Ahmed Abdirahman, 40, was convicted in April on charges of importing methamphetamine and possession of the drug for the purpose of trafficking.At the time the charges were laid in 2019, the Canada Border Services Agency said it was "the largest methamphetamine seizure, on record, for the CBSA within the past seven years.
