) - The man in charge of the troubled Prichard water system has made it clear that one of the most plausibleBut with a looming deadline to make a recommendation to the judge who appointed the so-called receiver, it is not at all clear that MAWSS has any interest in taking on the utility that serves Prichard and Chickasaw.

The Prichard water system is the largest customer of MAWSS; it buys water wholesale from the Mobile system and then sells it retail to residents and businesses in Prichard and Chickasaw. Given that relationship, some members of the Citizens Advisory Council – a group created by receiver John S. Young Jr. to offer feedback – have argued that cutting out the middleman is the simplest solution.

In addition to approval from the judge who put the Prichard utility into receivership, a merger would require action by the Alabama Legislature and approval from voters.
