Beyond Meat, a vegan burger that is having its moment in the plant-based protein food trend, will be sold in the meat case at Canadian retail outlets, the company announced Thursday. They will also be available at Co-op Food Stores, Fresh Street Market, IGA, Loblaw, Longos, Metro, Save On Foods, Sobeys, and Whole Foods Market.
Earlier this month, White Spot announced it would begin offering the meatless burger, made with pea protein, on its menu. Fast-food joint A&W already offers the Beyond Burger. The Beyond Burger is the first plant-based burger that’s designed to look, cook and taste like beef but is made entirely from plants. The company says there is no gluten or GMOs.
Canada’s newly revamped food guide encourages Canadians to eat more plant-based foods, and scientists recommend limiting red meat for health and environmental reasons.
