A group of construction workers made redundant "out of the blue" have been awarded a total of £250,000 in compensation following an employment tribunal.
Founded in 1991, the business operated mainly through the Central Belt and Ayrshire and had a turnover of £25m. The firm was taken to an employment tribunal by 85 employees represented by Thompsons Solicitors Scotland. In April of this year, Judge MacLean ruled that "the respondent failed to ensure that employee representatives were elected... and then to consult with them" prior to redundancies being made. Paul Kissen, a solicitor at Thompsons told Glasgow Live: "In this situation, the workers were all shocked and devastated, many of them having worked at the company for several years to suddenly be made redundant out of the blue.
