Sneinton Market business owners have spoken out after they were told in 2020 that they would most likely have to relocate when a student property extension was approved. The plans, submitted by student accommodation company iQ Property Partnership, outlined an extension of the current Exchange building on Lower Parliament Street to Gedling Street and Boston Street.
Business owners of the Gedling Street units say that through this process they were left in the dark about developments. Tony Brack, who runs One BC with wife Reeta, said the lack of updates about the future of their business made the process harder. "It was a bit scary, to say the least, and we were looking at different options. We would have had to if they weren't going to renew the lease.
In August 2022, Murat relocated their premises to the nearby Bath Street after being based in Sneinton Market for over 10 years. Owner Nejdat Kaya still has a contract at the site, however, and has since opened a vegan supermarket in the unit, which quickly closed within five months of opening in October 2023.
